My 3-year-old son caught 3 fish yesterday….
3 more than me…
On a tiny $19.95 fishing rod.
Completely showed me and my $300 rod how it’s done.
I’ll be honest.
I was frustrated but proud at the same time.
My ego was fully prepared to impress him by reeling in “the big one”.
I was telling him the night before about how I was going to catch a MASSIVE fish!
Well…. It didn’t happen.
. . . . . . . . . .
After I finished feeding the fish in a last-ditch effort we called it a day.
Walking back to the car I said to him –
“You’re so much better at fishing than daddy”.
In his 3 year old wisdom –
“it’s OK Daddy, so many fish left, next time you catch them all, I show you”
Ego blow number 2 but completely impressed by him.
. . . . . . . . . .
Sometimes our success has nothing to do with the tools and methods.
Sometimes it comes down to our attitude, perspective and expectations.
And of course. Our Ego.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Another lesson from my 3 year old.
